Jeff Lerg Named Michigan College Athlete of the Year
5/12/2008 M. Ice Hockey ~ Michigan State hockey player Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the Michigan College Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Detroit Athletic Club on Monday, May 12. The award is given to one male and one female college athlete who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and scholastics, as well as showing strong citizenship through school leadership, community involvement, and volunteerism. Spartan Hockey Adds Two for Fall
5/15/2008 M. Ice Hockey ~ Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced the signing of Mike Merrifield (Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Ben Warda (Lake Orion, Mich.) to National Letters of Intent. Both players recently wrapped up their seasons with St. Louis of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), helping the Bandits to the NAHL's Robertson Cup Championship. :: Full Release ::
Men's Golf Tied for 14th After First Day of NCAA East Regional
5/15/2008 M. Golf ~ The Michigan State men's golf team posted an opening round one-over par 285 today at the NCAA East Regional, held at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Currently, the Spartans, the region's eighth seed, are tied for 14th and are four strokes behind the final NCAA Championship qualifying position. :: Full Release ::
MSU Baseball Falls To Indiana, 9-2
5/15/2008 Baseball ~ The Michigan State baseball team dropped the series opener to Indiana, 9-2, Thursday afternoon at Kobs Field. The Spartans, very much in the hunt for a spot in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament, were subdued by a strong pitching performance by Indiana's Eric Arnett and a five-run Indiana seventh inning. Men's Golf Travels to Tennessee for NCAA East Regional
The Michigan State men's golf team begins the 2008 NCAA East Regional on Thursday at the Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The regional will extend until Saturday with 18 holes being played each day.

Spartan Rowing Set for South/Central Regionals
After capturing the 2008 Big Ten Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Spartans are poised to make a confident return to the NCAA Regatta this spring. the No. 5 Spartans head into the South/Central Regional (May 17-18) looking to take top finishes, and hoping to emerge as a top contendor for the 2008 NCAA Championship Regatta.
Prelimary heats on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn., begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the regional semifinals at 2 p.m. The final races are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sunday. The full race schedule can be found on page 6.

Spartan Baseball Closes Regular Season Against Indiana
After winning seven of its last 10 games, the Michigan State baseball team (24-25, 12-14 Big Ten) hosts a four-game series against Indiana at Kobs Field in the final weekend of the regular seson. Game one is set for Thursday at 3:05 p.m. Friday's doubleheader and the series finale on Saturday will each begin at 1:05 p.m. The Spartans will honor their 12 seniors in a Senior Day ceremony on Saturday.Complete Baseball Game Notes in PDF Format

Four Spartans Named to Great Lakes All-Region Softball Teams
Michigan State softball continues to earn postseason honors as four Spartans were named to the 2008 Great Lakes All-Region Team on Wednesday, May 14. Senior outfielder Nikki Nicosia received first-team honors, while senior utility player Jessica LeFevre, junior shortstop Gina Monda and redshirt freshman Bianca Mejia garnered second-team nods.

Courtney Schiffauer Named Ohio Basketball Coaches Association Division I Player of the Year
Incoming Spartan freshman Courtney Schiffauer was recently named the OHSBCA (Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association) Division I Player of the Year. Schiffauer, a second-team all-state selection by the Associated Press, averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in leading Boardman High School to the state semifinals and a 19-8 record.

Men's Golf's Casey Lubahn Named Finalist for the Jan Strickland Award
Michigan State men's golf assistant coach Casey Lubahn was chosen as a finalist for the 2008 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, announced recently by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
