Jake Boss Jr. Named Michigan State's 16th Baseball Coach
Jake Boss Jr., who in his first season at Eastern Michigan led the Eagles to the 2008 NCAA Tournament, has been named Michigan State University's 16th head baseball coach. Boss, the 2008 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, was formally introduced by MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis at a press conference Wednesday at Kobs Field.
In just one season as head coach, Boss made an immediate impact at Eastern Michigan, guiding the Eagles to their second consecutive MAC West Division crown and first NCAA Regional appearance since 2003. For his efforts, Boss was selected the 2008 MAC Coach of the Year and made history by becoming just the second coach in league history to win the MAC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament in his first season.

Shindler Named To Northwoods League All-Star Team
Michigan State infielder AJ Shindler has been selected to compete in the 2008 Northwoods League All-Star Game, the league announced recently. Shindler, who will be a senior at MSU this fall, plays for the Battle Creek Bombers and is one of two players on the team to be named an All-Star. RJ Hively of Cal State Fullerton will also represent the Bombers in the all-star game, which will take place Monday evening (July 14) at Warner Park in Madison, Wis.

Grewe Resigns, Accepts Associate Head Coach Position At LSU
David Grewe, who compiled a 75-85 record in three seasons as head baseball coach at Michigan State, has resigned from his position to become the associate head coach at LSU, where he will be reunited with Tiger head coach Paul Manieri. Grewe previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach under Manieri at Notre Dame (2003-05).Assistant coach Tony Baldwin will serve as interim head coach as Michigan State begins a search for a successor.

Trio Of Spartans Selected In MLB Draft
Catcher Kyle Day (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) and pitcher Mark Sorensen (Northville, Mich./Northville) were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Friday, June 6. Day was taken in the 12th round (359th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds, while Sorensen was drafted in the 32nd round (973rd overall) by the Detroit Tigers.

Spartan Baseball Announces Top 9 Camp Dates
Michigan State baseball head coach David Grewe and the Spartan program have announced the dates for David Grewe's Top 9 Summer Baseball Camps. There will be a wide variety of camps offered for all ages including the Spartan Elite Specialty Camp, that will allow the camper to live life as a Division I baseball player as a Spartan.

Sorensen And Roberts Named Third-Team All-Big Ten
Junior Mark Sorensen (Northville, Mich./Northville) and sophomore Chris Roberts (Oshkosh, Wis./West) of the Michigan State baseball team were each named third-team All-Big Ten. Roberts was selected as an outfielder while Sorensen was honored as a starting pitcher. Sorensen was also named the team's Sportsmanship Award winner. The conference office made the announcement Tuesday, May 20.

MSU Baseball Season Ends With 14-5 Loss
Senior first baseman Evan Friedland hit a three-run homer and fellow seniors Dennis Jones and Justin Potes each had two hits in their final game at Michigan State Saturday at Kobs Field. Indiana defeated MSU, 14-5, to clinch a berth in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan State finishes the 2008 season 24-29 and 12-18 in Big Ten play.

Indiana Sweeps Baseball Doubleheader To Clinch Series
Indiana won both ends of a doubleheader Friday to clinch a series win over the Michigan State baseball team. The Spartans dropped a 7-6 decision to the Hoosiers in game one before Indiana completed the sweep with a 7-3 victory in game two. This weekend's three losses mathematically eliminates MSU from the Big Ten Tournament race.

MSU Baseball Falls To Indiana, 9-2
The Michigan State baseball team dropped the series opener to Indiana, 9-2, Thursday afternoon at Kobs Field. The Spartans, very much in the hunt for a spot in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament, were subdued by a strong pitching performance by Indiana's Eric Arnett and a five-run Indiana seventh inning. Both of MSU's runs came on a two-run homer in the sixth inning by junior Kyle Day.
