Jack Newman Wins 83rd U.S. Amateur Public Links
Rising junior Jack Newman made a name for himself on the national stage this afternoon, winning the 83rd United States Amateur Public Links Championship. Newman beat John Chin, the 2008 Big West Player of the Year at UC-Irvine, 5&3 in Saturday's scheduled 36-hole final at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo.

Newman Advances to Finals of 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links
The Michigan State men's golf program has been well represented at the 2008 United States Amateur Public Links Championship this week at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. Rising junior Jack Newman has surprised the field and advanced to the finals, while rising senior Randy Hutchison made his way to the quarterfinals.
 
Rising junior Jack Newman will face John Chin in tomorrows 36-hole final of the 83rd U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Former Spartan Jimmy Chestnut Wins 2008 Michigan Amateur
2005 Michigan State graduate Jimmy Chestnut defeated rising senior Steve Cuzzort in the finals of the 2008 Michigan Amateur this past weekend at the Moors Golf Club in Portage, Michigan. Chestnut edged Cuzzort 4 & 2 in the 18-hole final to win his first Michigan Amatuer title.

Michigan State's Hutchison Finishes Third at Michigan Open
Michigan State rising senior Randy Hutchison placed third and was the low amateur this week at the 91st Michigan Open, held June 9-12 at The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Hutchison, a first-team All-Big Ten selection in the spring, tallied a nine-under par 278 (66-66-72-74), to finish four stroke behind former PGA Tour professional Tom Gillis.
 
The MSU rising senior Randy Hutchison was the top amateur at the 91st Michigan Open.

Brehm Honored on PING All-America Honorable Mention Team
Recent Michigan State men's golf graduate Ryan Brehm added to his postseason laurels, being named to the Division I PING All-America Honorable Mention Team, announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Brehm, Hutchison Named to PING All-Midwest Region Team
Michigan State men's golfers Ryan Brehm and Randy Hutchison were selected to the Division I PING All-Midwest Region Team, recently announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Brehm was named to the team for the third-consecutive season, while Hutchison earns the honor for the first time.

Many members of the Michigan State men's golf team have had amateur success lately, away from their responsibilities as a member of the Spartans.

Men's Golf Fail to Qualify for NCAAs; Place 11th at East Regional
The Michigan State men's golf team fell two strokes short of an NCAA Championship berth, after finishing the NCAA East Regional, held at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 11th place at one-under par 851 (285-279-287).

Men's Golf Climbs Leaderboard At Day Two of the NCAA East Regional
The Michigan State men's golf team carded a five-under 279 today in the second round of the NCAA East Regional at the Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Spartans are currently tied for 10th, the final NCAA Championship qualifying position. MSU's round was the fifth-lowest of the day and their second-best total of the season.
