Steve Manz And Carlos Alexander Lead Spartan Men's Track At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-The Michigan State men's track and field team competed at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Jan. 30, in South Bend, Ind. Senior Steve Manz and freshman Jason Brown took their show on the road while finishing in the top two spots in the shot put for the fourth consecutive week. Manz took the shot put title (57-4 1/4), while Brown placed second in the event with a throw of 53-0 1/4. In the weight throw, Manz placed second with a distance of 56-7 1/4, while Julien Williams was second in the long jump with a leap of 20-7 3/4. On the track, Carlos Alexander finished in first place in section three of the 200-meter dash (22.01) with the top overall time out of 16 participants, and also finished first in section two of the 60-meter dash (7.00) with the third best overall time of the 21 competitors in the event. Agim Shabaj won section two of the 200-meter dash and was second to Alexander in overall time (22.41). Second place in the 60-meter hurdles was awarded to State's John Childress with a time of 8.29.
Michigan State next competes at the Meyo Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7 in South Bend, Ind.
