Final Stats

ATHENS, Ga. - No. 15 Michigan State women's golf finished tied for seventh at the 2004 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., on Sunday, March 28. The Spartans, who tied with Furman with an 896, fired a 302 in Sunday's final round after posting back-to-back rounds of 297 on the first two days.

Eight of the top-25 teams in the country are at the University of Georgia Golf Course as tournament host and No. 5 ranked Georgia won the event with an 865 (292-288-285). No. 6 Ohio State, who paced the field going into the final day, finished second with an 876 (291-283-302), while No. 1 Duke was third with an 877 (292-291-294). No. 10 Oklahoma State finished in fourth with an 882 (300-289-293) and No. 8 Auburn placed fifth at 884 (293-295-296).

MSU was led by senior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio), who recorded her third top-10 finish of the season, tying for ninth with a 218 (70-76-72). Kersten's 218 tied for eighth on MSU's low 54-hole tournament score list and was a career best for the senior.

Senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) tied for 11th for her sixth top-20 showing of the season. Fouch shot a three-round score of 219 (70-75-74) and that places her 11th on MSU's low 54-hole tournament score chart.

Duke's Brittany Lang took medalist honors with a 207 (66-73-69), while Georgia's Allison Martin was second with a 210 (72-69-69).
