SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Michigan State women's track and field team traveled on Friday, Feb. 6 to the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The first day of competition was held at Loftus Sports Center with Sarah Adelaine posting the best MSU finish of the night with a second-place showing in the weight throw.

Adelaine had a toss of 56-8 to finish second, while Michelle Rossio placed second in her flight with a throw of 45-4 1/2. In other field events, Sherita Williams placed fourth overall in the long jump with a leap of 19-8 1/4, while sophomore Taren James finished second in her flight (18-8). In the pole vault, Mickie Rzepka tied for fifth with a leap of 11-11 3/4.

On the track, newcomers Naomi Williams and Marquita Allen placed first and second, respectively, in section four of the 300-meter dash. A Kansas City Junior College transfer, Williams took first in section four with the fifth-best time overall in the 300-meter dash finishing with a time of 41:15, while Allen placed second in the heat and sixth overall with a time of 41:38.

Also running well for State was sophomore Michelle Rafferty, who finished fourth overall in the 5,000 with a time of 17:35.35.

The Spartans will continue with the second day of competition at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Notre Dame. Meet time is set for 10 a.m.
