EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball (10-4, 2-2 Big Ten) put together its best match of the Big Ten season here Friday, and defeated No. 20 Wisconsin (10-4, 2-1), 3-1. Kim Schram, Jenny Rood and Megan Wallin led MSU's offensive attack. Game scores in the match were 30-16, 24-30, 30-28, 30-22. The match victory against the Badgers was MSU's first in the series since Nov. 5, 1999.

"It was nice to win," said head coach Chuck Erbe. "This game, and beating a team like Wisconsin, was huge as we travel to Indiana and Purdue next weekend. In game one, everyone did their jobs. It was textbook volleyball. Game three was pivotal, and in game four we got the matchups we wanted."

Schram hit .340 on the night with a match-high 23 kills. She also had seven digs and four blocks. Wallin followed up her .500 performance (11K-1E-20TA) against Michigan Wednesday night with a .444 attack percentage, as she contributed 11 kills and a season-best seven blocks. Rood added 15 kills, a service ace and eight digs to the Spartans' effort.

In game one, MSU jumped out to an early 8-3 lead before the Badgers crept back into the game. Consistent play from Schram gave State a 19-9 lead. From there, the Spartans didn't look back, as they held UW to .029 hitting (8K-7E-34) in the game, while posting a .548 percentage (19K-2E-31TA) of their own. MSU took the first game, 30-16. The Badgers came back in the second game of the match, hitting .304 as a team, with a combined nine kills from Jill Odenthal and Aubrey Meierotto. The teams traded points in the second game, and were tied at 21 before Wisconsin pulled out a 28-23 lead and took the game, 30-24.

After the 10-minute intermission, the Spartans bounced back and posted a .455 attack percentage (20K-5E-33TA). Rood had seven kills, while Schram contributed six. MSU won the third game of the match 30-28. MSU continued its strong attack in the fourth game, hitting .382, while UW dropped to .171. Rood and Schram again led the team with five kills each.

Nikki Colson had 59 assists on the night, as well as four kills and eight digs. Brooke Langston added nine kills and three block assists, while Sara Villwock had 10 kills and 12 digs, her second double-double of the season.

"We played tough, and made a choice to compete tonight," said Rood. "We were ready to play, there was no question about it. As a team we had a good attitude."

The Spartans travel to Indiana Friday, Oct. 10 for an 8 p.m. EDT match, and face Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., on Oct. 11, also at 8 p.m.
